This season, relations between both sets of supporters could be even more tense as Arsenal secured the signing of the summer in £42.4m Mesut Ozil, together with the shrewd free transfer of Mathieu Flamini.
Tottenham, meanwhile, sold a player in Gareth Bale for a world record sum but used the cash to buy a team… with the stand-out signings so far being Paulinho and Christian Eriksen.
The difference between the two sides was only evident after 38 Premier League games last term, when Arsenal finally guaranteed a fourth place finish on the final day of the season.
While Arsene Wenger's side do already have bragging rights this season, thanks to a 1-0 victory over Andre Villas-Boas' Tottenham, the difference between the two, again, may be negligible as, currently, only three points separates them in the division.
Both may challenge for silverware.
But Piers Morgan could not help but remind Spurs fans that it is Arsenal who have the greater trophy record and it is Arsenal who are the more recent recipients of the Premier League crown.
Congratulations to all my friends at Tottenham Hotspur - exactly 20,000 days since they last won the League. (via @UberFotbalFacts )— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) October 10, 2013
