Liverpool FC are one of a number of teams claimed to have a vested interest in the future of Argentine starlet Luciano Vietto. The 19-year-old Argentine Under-20 international is understandably hot property.
In his 32 games last season he scored 13 goals - an impressive record for one so young and with that in mind interest has come in from around Europe - with Manchester City, Juventus and Real Madrid all said to be keeping tabs on him.
And now they could take advantage of what is fast becoming a crisis at his current club Racing. The Argentine side, based in Avellaneda, have the likes of former Italian international Mauro Camoranesi in their squad - but they are still having a bewildering time at the moment.
This week saw the club’s manager Carlos Ischia resign, after just five games in charge. The side are currently on a horrific run of form - that has not seen them win a game since the end of June - 12 games ago.
The home defeat to Atletico Rafaela was the final straw for Ischia - as the club stayed bottom of the table with just two points from their opening 10 fixtures.
It is not just in the dugout that people are leaving left right and centre at the club - but the boardroom has also descended into farce.
The President, Gaston Cogorno, has left; as has the vice-president Rodolfo Molina as a boardroom crisis paralyses the great Argentine side.
For Vietto, things have not been much better. He has not scored this season, with his last goal coming in the last game Racing won - against Union on the 22nd June. But considering the circumstances at the club, it is little surprise that a young striker is struggling to play his best football.
If there was a time to strike Racing for their top talent that time is definitely now, as they are on the ropes - and Vietto will surely jump at the chance to abandon ship before it begins sinking.
Now is the perfect opportunity for Liverpool to get their man.
