Former Liverpool loan star Nuri Sahin is aiming for a return from an ankle problem in Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga match against Hanover on October 19, the weekend before the Gunners are due to face the German side in the Champions League.
Dortmund are plagued by injuries at the moment, with several players including Sahin in the treatment room; Ilkay Gundogan, Sven Bender, Marcel Schmelzer and Marco Reus among others.
That leaves Dortmund substantially weaker as they prepare for that Champions League clash against the Gunners but if Sahin can return ahead of schedule, then it leaves Jurgen Klopp with more midfield options.
“I will give anything to be there,” Sahin told Bild when quizzed on a potential return for the match against Hannover.
Sahin is an extremely talented, dynamic midfielder, able to offer a creative threat from different positions across the midfield.
The Turkish star has started nine games for the German giants in the Bundesliga and Champions League this season, making just a single appearance off the subs bench.
That demonstrates how key he is to Jurgen Klopp’s current side and even if he has a short cameo of the bench in that game against Hannover, it will increase his chances of starting against Arsenal.
Needless to say one less top class player in Dortmund’s side is much better for Arsenal than if Sahin is declared fit for the fixture.
Do you fancy the Gunners to win this Champions League clash?
