Tottenham Hotspur morning news: Vertonghen hits back at Mourinho, Gazza joins Twitter

A round up of the key news stories this morning about Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen has hit back at recent criticism from Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho called Vertonghen a ‘disgrace’ for his role in Fernando Torres’ second yellow card in the recent London derby between the two clubs.

“I don't allow people to run over me - I like to play on the edge, especially in the big matches where details make the difference,” said the Belgian.

Right-back Kyle Walker says he remains convinced Tottenham will make the top four by the end of the season.

The young defender was speaking during the fallout from Tottenham’s 3-0 drubbing at White Hart Lane by local rivals West Ham United.

“It's a bit too early to be talking about where we can be at the end, but if we keep playing to our strengths, then I see no reason why we cannot make the top four,” he told the Mirror.

Tottenham legend Paul Gascoigne has signed up to social network site Twitter.

Gazza gained a quarter of a million followers in just a few hours after signing up as @gazzaofficial, stating that he wanted to show fans the real him.

The former star’s battles against alcoholism have been well documented and he’s already attracted attention on the site from key figures in the game.
