Manchester United morning news: Wilshere dismisses Januzaj talk; Hernandez hints at exit

A select round-up of news relating to Manchester United, including Adnan Januzaj’s England links and Javier Hernandez’s future.

Ever since Adnan Januzaj scored a brace on his first league start for Manchester United, the talk of a possible future as an England international has been loud and long.

In truth, it is never going to happen. But once Roy Hodgson admitted it was a possibility the media have not stopped talking about it.

And now the players have got involved, with Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere dismissing the suggestion in the simplest of ways.

The only people who should play for England are English people,” he said last night.

And in an interview published by the Express, the midfielder added, “If you live in England for five years it doesn’t make you English. You shouldn’t play. If I went to Spain and lived there for five years, I am not going to play for Spain.”

In truth all the debate seems little more than a waste of words, because when Januzaj does ultimately make the decision, he is likely to choose between Albania and Belgium. But it makes for plenty of headlines in a quiet week building up to the World Cup qualifiers.

In other news, the Mirror has picked up on quotes from Javier Hernandez during an interview in Mexico, where he hinted at a possible future move.

Talking about his limited opportunities, the striker said, “I am working towards that – earning a spot as a starter. I know that my performance on the pitch will allow me to achieve that goal someday either here or elsewhere for any other club.”

Hernandez has always spoken of his happiness at United and while this does not seem to have changed, the fact that he is mentioning a possible move suggests he knows that with the competition ahead of him, he may never play week-in-week-out as he craves.

Saying that, we ran an article last night about Robin van Persie’s less-than-impressive start to the new campaign, which you can read here; so perhaps in time Hernandez will be given the opportunity to be the legendary goal-scorer United fans know he is capable of being.
