Liverpool striker Luis Suarez says he has become calmer since returning from his lengthy ban for biting an opponent and says he has his family to thank.

‘They make me think hard and calm me, because my family are so important to me,' said Suarez, as reported by Sky Sports. 'I am aware that in recent matches I’ve been calmer. I realised playing well, with more tranquillity, is helping me a lot. I prefer to continue like that and not be the same as before.’

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mirror, chairman Tom Werner says he has a great deal of affection for the Uruguayan, that he ‘got a kick’ out of him emerging from the players’ tunnel with his two children before the home win against Crystal Palace at the weekend, and hopes that he will be able to fire Liverpool into the Champions League after he made clear his desire to play in the competition over the summer.

Werner said: ‘He shook hands with all the officials and the other players carrying his baby. That is the side of Luis I know, the loving parent. It would be a very happy day next May, if and when we get to the Champions League by finishing in the top four, and he is part of it.’

Werner also hailed manager Brendan Rodgers for the progress he has made at the club since taking over in the Liverpool dugout in the summer of 2012: ‘Brendan is respected by the players. They feel he is a good strategist and a good leader and his philosophy has been embraced by everyone.

‘We are all moving in the same direction and Brendan is very much the leader.’

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Pepe Reina has reaffirmed his desire to join Barcelona at the end of the season. Reina is currently on loan at Napoli after Simon Mignolet was brought in from Sunderland. The Spaniard said: ‘It would be great to return to Barcelona. I am very happy that my name is being mentioned, but my goal right now is to put in a good season with Napoli.’

Defender Kolo Toure gave an interview to the Liverpool Echo. He says that his move to Liverpool has reinvigorated his international career and praised new boy Mamadou Sakho.

In other transfer news, if Liverpool want to land Swansea City forward Michu, they would have to cough up £30m for him according to the Daily Express. Arsenal are also reported to be interested.
