Chelsea morning news: Barca president on Courtois, Lukaku wants to outperform Chelsea

A round up of the key news stories this morning about Chelsea.

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has described his admiration for Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

The young Belgian continues to be linked with a move to the Nou Camp despite being Petr Cech’s natural successor at Stamford Bridge.

“Courtois is a fantastic goalkeeper, he is very good. I appreciate him enormously,” Rosell told Voetbal Primeur.

On loan Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is hoping to outperform the current squad at Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku was allowed to join Everton on a season long loan deal at the back end of the last transfer window and wants to perform better than his Chelsea colleagues.

“Everyone has their own opinion on things. I can only underline my case by scoring more goals than all the strikers currently at Chelsea, and that is what I will be striving to do this season,” he told Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad.

Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has eased injury concerns over an ankle problem.

There was talk that De Bruyne would be held back for Belgium’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Croatia this Friday but he’s confirmed he’s fully fit and ready to play.

The midfielder has fallen out of favour at Chelsea and is currently trying to fight his way back into the Chelsea first team.
