Cameroonian midfielder Alex Song was always going to be up against it to establish himself above Xavi and Andres Iniesta at Barcelona.
The Star was one such paper to claim the former Gunner was frustrated at Barcelona, but the player himself has today moved to distance himself from such reports. Sort of.
He told Radio Monte Carlo: "Get out of Barca? No. I think of staying. We have a new coach with a system of effective rotations. I have until January to decide, but I'm not thinking about leaving. I'm here to work.
"I do not know what will happen in the future, but it is true that I spent some fantastic seasons there (with Arsenal). We will see what happens, but for now I'm a Barcelona player."
It sounds like Song is keeping his options open. He has not entirely given up on life at Barcelona, and why should he just yet?
The midfield man enjoyed a terrific performance at the weekend, starring in the 4-1 win over Real Valladolid, completing 102 of 102 passes. That is exactly the sort of performance which will endear him to manager Tata Martino.
If he can establish himself a little more in the Barcelona side, it does sound as though Song will resist any temptation to give up and move back to the Premier League at least until next summer, but his comments about 'deciding in January' clearly hint that if he does struggle for game time, he will take his chance to move on.
Arsenal and United fans, do you want your club to sign Song?
