Tottenham Hotspur morning news: Eriksen on Spurs start, Dembele's message to 'smaller' teams

A round up of the key news stories about Tottenham Hotspur this morning.

Christian Eriksen says Spurs have exceeded all of his expectations following his move from Ajax.

The Dane was an £11.5 million signing towards the end of the last transfer window and he has praised the club and the fans since his arrival.

“My start at Tottenham has exceeded all expectations. It's a really good group of players I have come into. I can still feel that I have I'm in a new place and I just have to get used to that. But people have been really helpful,” he told BT.

Tottenham midfielder Moussa Dembele says Spurs can’t afford slip ups against smaller sides.

Spurs were well beaten last weekend by local rivals West Ham United and Dembele says the club can’t afford a repeat of that result.

“You see the top teams, if they want to be champions. You have to win these small games. If we want to be there with the top four we need to win these games. It’s a mental thing. We have to talk with the team and we need to concentrate,” he said.

Tottenham’s Under-21 side were hammered in a Premier League match against Liverpool, losing 5-0.

Spurs never really got going as they sought to climb the table, missing chances at 1-0 down to get back into the game.

However, Liverpool boasted a back four which included talented defenders Andre Wisdom and Aly Cissokho as Spurs were forced to chase the game.
