Andres Iniesta is one of the most talented midfielders to have ever graced the game so it’s no surprise that the second there was speculation of problems over a new contract, rumours starting emerging of a possible Premier League move.
If any of the big sides in England, including the Manchester clubs, harboured any realistic hopes of trying to snatch the Spaniard before the end of his career, those hopes have now been well and truly smashed.
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has mirrored comments made by the player himself, confident that the dynamic playmaker will remain a Barcelona player for the rest of his career.
“If I had to bet, I would bet that Iniesta finishes his career at the club,” he said in an interview according to Mundo Deportivo.
There is still no resolution to Iniesta’s contract renewal at Barcelona, with his current deal expiring in 2015.
Until an official announcement is made, there is always going to be speculation but it’s baseless and it’s important for the Manchester clubs, and any other side interested in him, to move on.
Rosell has also confirmed that Barcelona are prepared to make Iniesta the second best paid player at the club behind Lionel Messi, which means if a side did manage to work some miracle in terms of a transfer fee, there would still be a huge obstacle in terms of a personal package.
