Tottenham Hotspur morning news: Spurs in for Baines, 'contact' made with Pirlo

A round up of this morning’s news relating to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has said the defeat dished out by West Ham at White Hart Lane is a wake up call to his players.

Spurs went down 3-0 against their London rivals after a lacklustre performance, which rarely saw them threaten.

“It is a defeat, we don't like it, but it's a wake-up call and we have to react. I trust the team to do it. It is not for me to speak about the strategy of West Ham. They have done very well defensively this season,” said AVB.

Tottenham have reportedly joined the race to sign Everton left-back Leighton Baines.

Manchester United have made very public attempts to try and reunite Baines with former manager David Moyes but reports suggest Spurs will try and ruin the party.

Tottenham have been linked with several left-backs following an injury to Danny Rose with Benoit Assou-Ekotto out on loan at Championship side QPR.

Former Chelsea player Gianluca Vialli has suggested Tottenham have already been in contact with Juventus to sign Andrea Pirlo.

Pirlo is thought to be available for next season according to several reports with Tottenham one of the clubs said to have been tracking his progress.

I got the rumours from London. There is contact between Andrea Pirlo and Tottenham for next season,” said Vialli.
