Barcelona showed their scary strength in depth at the weekend in winning 4-1 against Real Valladolid without Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi in the starting line-up.
Players who routinely cannot get a game for the Spanish champions, regularly find themselves dreamed about by other clubs - but it remains fortunate if they are able to get their hands on them.
One such example was Thiago Alcantara, who left to rejoin Pep Guardiola in the summer at Bayern Munich - but was only able to do so due to a buyout clause in his contract.
Fortunately when a player like Thiago leaves - which remains rare, Barcelona have many a talent in their locker - step forward Sergi Roberto, the 21-year-old midfielder tipped to replace him.
Sergi Roberto was last weekend linked with a €6 million offer from Manchester United, but the latest reports out of Spain claim the Red Devils are wasting their time.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo have run a report on Barcelona's commitment to the central midfielder, who has made three brief substitute appearances in La Liga this season.
Roberto was linked with Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, but the paper has claimed that Spurs made an approach to sign him months before that.
They write: "Although now it's Manchester United who are pushing for him, also speculation with Bayern - Barca last season received a proposal from Tottenham for him to go on loan in January and the club and closed its doors.
"The Barca coach has met with the player, has conveyed his full confidence and asked him to be patient, 'your time will come this season'."
From Barcelona's perspective there was little to lose from allowing the player to join Spurs on loan in January, but they resisted anyway.
When Thiago was sold in the summer, Barcelona fans were quick to point to Roberto as a replacement, and adamant that he should not be allowed to leave in the same way as the now Bayern man.
United fans dreaming of bringing him in should likely accept now that it is unlikely to happen. Even it seems attracting one of Barcelona's sixth of seventh choice central midfielders is looking like a task too difficult.
Spurs fans could the youngster have made a difference last season?
