Arsenal loanee starlet ends tough week with brace in 6-0 thrashing

Joel Campbell may have been slapped on the wrist by FIFA this week, but he ended it scoring a brace for Olympiakos.

This week has been an interesting one for Costa Rican youngster Joel Campbell. The Arsenal forward is currently on loan at Greek champions Olympiakos, but this week spent most of his time in the papers for the wrong reasons.

Campbell was sanctioned by FIFA for play acting in a game against the USA. The young attacker has been sanctioned by FIFA for ‘’a reprimand for breaching art. 57 of the FIFA disciplinary code.”

Article 57 is basically the Ashley Young rule and talks of violating the ‘’principles of fair play or whose behaviour is otherwise unsporting”.

So what did Campbell do? Well he dived, essentially

His theatrics after what appeared to be an accidental brush with American international Matt Besler are more common place on the silver screen then the fields of green.

Besler stands around sort of comically unperturbed by the antic of Campbell, who is rolling around as if just shot by a sniper in the crowd, but the American is then booked to his disbelief.

US Soccer fans were let outraged by this and the story received some publicity, which is why FIFA needed to act.

Here it is below…

But today he put the debacle behind him, by scoring goals.

He entered the fray for Olympiakos in the 61st minute in place of former Manchester City winger Vladimir Weiss and two minutes later he was celebrating a goal, 20 minutes and an assist for Giannis Maniatis later and Campbell bagged his second - and his teams sixth in a thrashing against Veria - who have lost their previous five games.

Here are Campbell’s goals from the game ….

Can Campbell make an impact at Arsenal?
