Last weekend they were holding local rivals and Champions League operators Shakhtar Donetsk to a 2-2 draw.
This week, Metalurh Donetsk were getting absolutely pasted by Dynamo Kiev.
Kiev bagged nine goals in a 9-1 romp against ten-man Metalurh, with Andriy Yarmolenko, Jeremain Lens, Haruna Lukman and Dieumerci Mbokani all among the goal-scorers.
But the goalscorer who led from the front was Younes Belhanda.
The Moroccan spent much of this summer discussing where he was going to go after ageing with Montpellier that he could leave.
So when he instead decided that he wanted to move to Kiev in a deal worth £9.7 million.
It was a deal that came as such as a surprise that French press reported the very next day that Belhanda was ready to rip up his contract and reconsider his options - claims that proved to be false in the end.
Because yesterday he scored a hat-trick in this relentless mauling, highlighting the game changing ability he has decided to take to Ukraine and not bring to our shores.
Some Kiev fans have been under-awed with what Belhanda has brought to the table so far, but there is no doubt that has now changed after the way in which he obliterated Metalurh.
Here are the highlights from the romp, Belhanda scores number three, seven and eight…
