Arsenal had a Jack Wilshere goal to thank for a share of the spoils in an end-to-end game that deserved no loser.
West Brom gave as good as they got, and the likes of Nicolas Anelka, Stephane Sessegnon and Morgan Almafitano all threatened early on, with Wojciech Szczesny even making a stunning save.
But he had no chance with Claudio Yacob’s expertly placed downward header, his first goal for the club, with gave The Baggies the lead.
The second half started much the same, but when Tomas Rosicky stripped off to enter the fray everyone expected to see Wilshere’s number go up.
The England international was absolutely woeful in the first half. He was unable to keep the ball, find his man or do anything positive - with a late yellow card the cherry on top a dreary first-half cake.
But it was his half volley, with a deflection off of Jonas Olsson, which beat Boaz Myhill in the West Brom goal - and proved to be the final goal in a 1-1 draw.
