As Tottenham prepare to face West Ham United this afternoon, one of the standout summer signings has moved to quell the early-season excitement their form has induced.
In quotes published by the Express, Christian Eriksen said, “We’re not going to get carried away. First of all we want to try and qualify for the Champions League and then we can go from there.”
Given their fine start to the new campaign, Spurs are being tipped by some to do far more than simply make the top four. But Eriksen knows that the smaller steps are vital before the bigger ones are even attempted.
In a change to the advertised scheduling, Manchester United are not the only club tipped with a January move for Everton’s Leighton Baines.
The England international is now being linked with a switch to White Hart Lane, as a solution to Andre Villas-Boas’s long-standing conundrum at left-back.
The Sunday People reports that Baines could be a target for Spurs having seen a new Everton deal fail to materialise. With Danny Rose currently seen as first-choice, the arrival of Baines would be another piece of an impressively-assembled jigsaw in North London.
But if Everton do sanction a move, expect Baines’ former manager David Moyes to be at the front of the queue.
