Manchester City facing battle to land PSV’s Bakkali

The 17-year-old could spark a bidding war among three Premier League clubs

Manchester City are preparing to reignite their interest in PSV Eindhoven teenager Zakaria Bakkali, with the Blues rumoured to be keen in landing the player this January.

The Citizens have long been admirers of the Belgian star, who has already made a significant impact in just a few short months in the Eredivisie.

But the Etihad club can expect to face some stiff competition for the star, with Italian news publication Tuttomercato today reporting that Arsenal and Chelsea are both rumoured to be keen on the player.

Bakkali is currently under contract with the Dutch giants until 2015, meaning any bid made in the next couple of months will most likely have to be a significant one if they are to prise the player away from Holland.

And City could face particularly stiff competition from Chelsea, with the Londoners enjoying an excellent relationship with PSV which has seen the likes of Alex and Arjen Robben move from the 1988 European Cup winners to Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal could prove similarly competitive for the player’s services, with Arsene Wenger keen to add to his wide options, amid concerns that the Gunners are currently too reliant on England international Theo Walcott.

The Citizen’s ongoing interest in the winger comes amid reports linking David Silva with a move to Real Madrid.

Los Blancos are believed to be keen on the idea of signing the former Valencia man, who remains an integral part of the Spain national team setup and would no doubt relish the opportunity to link at with the likes of Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas at the Bernabeu.

With all three Premier League clubs desperate to land a player currently being lauded as the next big thing in world football, expect some big money offers to be tabled in the very near future.
