News and gossip from The Emirates this Sunday morning.
The French midfielder returned to The Emirates this summer in what was, at the time, a divisive transfer. But the combative midfielder has looked a player reborn at the heart of Arsenal’s midfield - allowing the more attacking players in the team to play freely.
He says he is happy to do the job that has unleashed the likes of Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey this season:
‘’I am a defensive midfielder, trying to find the best balance in the team between the defence and attack. Winning games is a quality of effort. It's teamwork."
Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has stated his belief that Mesut Ozil will fire Arsenal to a Premier League title this season.
The two are close friends, and arrived in Madrid at the same time from German football.
And Khedira is in no doubt about the positive affect the former Werder Bremen playmaker will have on the Arsenal first-team:
‘’Arsenal had a strong team anyway, but Mesut makes them the best team in England. I am sure he can be the player that makes things happen for them and win them the championship.’’
Team news quickly ahead of today’s game against West Brom. Arsenal are looking to make it 11 wins in a row. Obviously Arsenal have their long-term absentees such as Abou Diaby (ACL), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Knee), Lukas Podolski (Hamstring), Theo Walcott (Abdominal), Yaya Sanogo (Back) and Santi Cazorla (Foot) but Bacary Sagna is also out, a hamstring injury ruling him out for three weeks.
Tomas Rosicky is expected to drop to the bench after only recently returning from injury himself.
Arsenal are being linked with a January move for Karim Benzema once again this morning. It is said that The Gunners and Chelsea are ready to pay up to £17 million for the French international - who is out of favour after a poor start to the campaign with Los Blancos.
