Tottenham Hotspur morning news: Boss slams agent claims; former player's England ambition

A select round-up of news relating to Tottenham, including Andre Villas-Boas on Vlad Chiriches’ future and early team news.

Following quotes from Vlad Chiriches’ agent that the defender would move to Chelsea if he performed well for Spurs, Andre Villas-Boas has moved to quash that notion.

In quotes published by the Daily Mail, the Tottenham manager said, “I have spoken to the player, told the player to speak to the agent and we have acted accordingly.

“We consider ourselves a big club. We are not a stepping stone to anybody.”

In truth, the summer signing has plenty to do just to regularly get into the Spurs team, given their outstanding defensive form so far in the campaign. And while Villas-Boas did not expect the agent to retract the statement, you sense he sees this as the end of the issue.

One player who did leave Spurs this summer is Tom Huddlestone, and the Hull midfielder has been speaking about his time at White Hart Lane and his hopes for the future.

It would have been easier to stay at Tottenham,” he told the Independent. “But I just wanted to play as regularly as possible.”

He also spoke about possibly returning to the England fold, although he accepts that may be a dream too far…at least for now.

And finally, in early team news for tomorrow’s match against West Ham United, the BBC reports that Younes Kaboul will miss the match through injury; while Danny Rose, Etienne Capoue and Aaron Lennon are also likely to sit the game out.
