Michael Palin, comedian, actor, writer, television presenter … prophet of shock football results?
Time will tell on the latter but the beloved travel presenter and star of Monty Python has certainly made a bold prediction ahead of the game between Arsenal and The Baggies this weekend … an 8-1 win for Steve Clarke’s men!
Palin was the celebrity invited in to do the BBC predictions alongside Mark Lawrenson this week, and while Lawro went with a far more conservative prediction for the game Palin went all out with 8-1!
No he hasn’t been brainwashed by everybody’s least favourite TV pundit Adrian Chiles - and no he hasn’t been misquoted.
It is simply a reference to an old joke. The Sheffield Wednesday fan was alluding to an old skit he did in the 1970’s where an irate football fan returns home to his suffering wife after his side were defeated … you guessed it … 8-1.
After a ten game winning streak it is hard to see Arsenal losing to West Brom in such a prolific manner, but The Baggies are riding the crest of a wave after beating Manchester United last weekend.
If it did happen then don’t worry, a few houses would get smashed up just like Palin did … shouting ‘Eight bloody one!’
But I don’t think it is likely Arsenal fans, but if it does, don’t rip the door off its hinges.
Here is the skit below…
