Josh Harrop scored a late penalty to earn United's under-18s a 1-1 draw with City earlier today.
The last time a Manchester United side kicked-off against Manchester City, it ended in complete humiliation; so the champions’ under-18 side brought at least a slither of satisfaction after their late penalty earned a 1-1 draw with their fierce rivals at Platt Lane earlier today.
Blues striker Daniel Lema put the Blues ahead after just nine minutes, and with time running out it appeared City would take all three points in the Barclay’s under-18 Premier League fixture.
But when Angelino fouled Demetri Mitchell in the box in the dying stages, Josh Harrop converted the penalty.
Given that City fielded a number of the players who had trounced Bayern Munich 6-0 in the UEFA Youth League last week, it was an admirable result for United.
And they almost snatched all three points in the final moments, when a shot from Mitchell came back off the post.
Big things are expected of Harrop this season, after he provided plenty of glimpses of what he could offer during the last campaign – predominantly from the substitutes’ bench.
His stand-out moment to date was his four-goal-showing in a Milk Cup match against Norwegian side Revo Express last year. And you can see all his goals on that occasion below:
