A round up of the latest stories about Tottenham Hotspur this morning.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Vilas-Boas has piled praise onto striker Jermain Defoe.

Defoe is one goal away from the European goalscoring record at Tottenham after helping his side to a 2-0 win in the Europa League away at Anzhi Makhachkala.

“It was another great goal, a great finish. It's really good to see him out there again doing extremely well whenever he's given the opportunity,” said AVB.

Spurs have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Athletic Bilbao target Ibai Gomez.

The club have confirmed that the 23-year-old is one of several players to be offered new contracts to keep them in Spain.

Reports suggest that AVB was hoping to approach the player this January, getting him to sign a pre-contract agreement before a permanent move next summer.

Former transfer target Ciprian Marica has revealed that Real Madrid legend Raul urged him to join current side Getafe, rejecting the chance to come to the Premier League.

The Romanian forward was a free agent and on the radar of Andre Villas-Boas as he looked to sure up his attack ahead of a long season.

“I talked to Raul, who is a good friend of the president. I asked and he helped me. I am an attacker and the important thing is to score goals. The important thing is that they know how to play. Scoring goals is important to me and I hope to score many,” he said.
