Arsene Wenger is not a manager who has a lot to be annoyed about at present, but his star midfielder has just given him cause to moan.
The Sun newspaper published photos of Wilshere 'smoking' a cigarette on a night out, to the chagrin of his manager.
The Arsenal manager said: "Well, I disagree completely with that behaviour. I need to have a chat with him about that.
“There are two things. First of all, when you are a footballer you are an example, and [second], you don’t do what damages your health.
“The fact is that you can damage your health at home. You can drink at home but nobody sees it. But when you do it in public, you damage your reputation as well.”
Wilshere defended himself on social media, when he earlier claimed he was just holding the cigarette as a dare by his friends, posting an image of Zinedine Zidane smoking to show it should not affect his footballing skills.
But for the record....I don't smoke!— Jack Wilshere (@JackWilshere) October 4, 2013
But Zidane is not the only famous footballer to be pictured with a cigarette in hand.
We wonder what manager Arsene Wenger would have to say about Arsenal's record signing Mesut Ozil if he saw this image:
What do you make of the furore?
