A round up of the latest news, transfer rumours and gossip connected to Liverpool.
Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson is expected to move into the middle of the team’s midfield for the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace. Lucas is suspended for the match which means Henderson may tuck inside leaving the right wing free for Raheem Sterling or Jordon Ibe.
Right-back Glen Johnson, left-back Aly Cissokho and midfielder Joe Allen are all expected to return to first team duty after the next international break.
Former Liverpool player Mark Lawrenson has backed the Reds to win the match against Palace 2-0. Lawrenson says he expects the side to respond in their first home game since suffering defeat against Southampton.
Brendan Rodgers says he’s happy to rotate his squad and system if it means he can continue to play Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez together.
“It's about exploiting the strengths of our players and I think this does it well for us. What I've found is that if I play one up top and one wide, I take a little bit away from them. They work better as a proper front two,” said Rodgers.
It’s a combination which has got Liverpool fans and supporters of other clubs talking about the potential ‘SAS’ partnership over the rest of the season, with on loan midfielder Victor Moses calling them one of the best pairs in the league.
“We all know Suárez and Sturridge are both great strikers and probably two of the best strikers in the Premier League at the moment,” said Moses.
The boss has also urged his side to be patient as they prepare for their Premier League clash against Palace this weekend.
“In the modern game, teams are set up defensively well. Tactically, there is limited space - especially at home. You have to be patient, teams aren't going to just turn up and roll over,” he told the club’s website.
In other news, current Bayer Leverkusen manager Sami Hyypia has admitted it would be a dream for him to manage Liverpool. Hyypia is one of the most iconic and popular defenders to have played for the club in the recent past and he joins Steven Gerrard in aspirations to take the top job at Anfield.
Winger Raheem Sterling should be full of confidence this weekend after he was named in Gareth Southgate’s England Under-21 squad for the European qualifiers against San Marino and Lithuania in the next international break.
In transfer news, goalkeeper Pepe Reina will reportedly look at a move to Barcelona at the end of the season. Napoli recently confirmed the goalkeeper is due to return to Anfield and with Victor Vales moving on at the Nou Camp, Reina is an obvious choice to replace him.
