Chelsea latest: Including early team news and Mourinho defends Lukaku loan

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from Stamford Bridge…

Chelsea go into Sunday’s match against Norwich City without the suspended (and injured) Fernando Torres. The BBC reports that the Blues could also be without Eden Hazard, and suggest that Juan Mata and Andre Schurrle will be the men to come in.

Norwich will give a late fitness test to defender Sebastien Bassong, while Nathan Redmond and Javier Garrido should both return after missing last weekend’s victory over Stoke City.

With Torres out for around three weeks, and with Romelu Lukaku starting at Everton where he left off at West Bromwich Albion, it is no surprise that Jose Mourinho was asked about the decision to send the Belgian on loan.

Speaking at his press conference earlier today, the Chelsea boss said he had no regrets about sending Lukaku to Goodison Park.

One thing is to play for Everton, another is to play for Chelsea,” he said.

And yet with every goal the 20-year-old scores for the Toffees, Blues fans will be forgiven for thinking if only.

And finally, following reports in Spain that Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal to sign Nicolas Otamendi when the transfer window reopens, TalkSport have reported the latest on the potential move, giving Blues fans the run-down on what exactly to expect if he does ultimately make the switch from current club FC Porto.
