"Consistency of performance". That's the term Newcastle boss Alan Pardew used over and over again in his pre-match press conference.
Defeats against Hull City and Everton have put a dampener on a steady start to the season. A third defeat on the bounce is unthinkable.
Pardew told the fans to judge him when he has a fully fit squad to pick from. Yet despite fielding strong starting XI's in the last two league games, victories have eluded the Toon manager.
The former West Ham manager was quick to defend his players, and said "consistency" is the key:
"We have the same number of points as Manchester United. Like all the other teams in the Premier League, we're striving for a consistency of performance.
"It’s about 90 minutes of a consistent performance. That’s what this team needs to bring to the party.
"We have the quality to cause Cardiff problems, and if can keep it tight then we have to believe that we can score.
"If we put the negatives in their mind, like score a goal or put them on the back foot, we can change the whole psychology of the game."
Pardew is expected to make key changes in defence and midfield ahead of the match at the Cardiff City Stadium.
