England coach Roy Hodgson has called the City ‘keeper up for the World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and Poland this month, and reinforced his belief that Hart will not let him down.
Speaking to a press conference, Hodgson said, “I am not blind to the situation. I do realise it is not a good moment for Joe.
“I still believe in Joe. I believe he is the right man for the job and I don’t believe he will let England down.”
It is admirable when a boss shows such belief in his players. But there is no doubt Hart is suffering a worrying dip in form that played a part in what Arjen Robben described as an unexpectedly easy evening for Bayern.
In quotes published by the BBC, the former Chelsea man said, “We were so dominant against a big team in Europe. We didn’t expect an easy game like that.
“It is a compliment to our team but we expected more from City.”
No doubt City expected more from themselves, too. But as it is they have some work to do with a double-header against CSKA Moscow set to decide which side follows Bayern into the knockout rounds.
