OK, Joe Hart is trending on Twitter, and not for good reasons.
It is fair to say that the England goalkeeper did not fill his nation with great hope ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers with his woeful performance against Bayern Munich last night.
He was at fault, arguably for two of the goals, and fans are worried as this is not the first time he has made such basic yet costly errors.
The English press have been talking up Fraser Forster - while the German press has been grinning ear to ear - laying into him across the board.
It is certainly a concern for Hart to be playing so poorly, but why?
He is obviously extremely talented and there is no reason for him to have been so bad against Bayern last night, even if you aren’t his biggest fan (personally I have always thought he is over-rated).
But it appears that the German press worked some magic to get him performing so badly - the old kiss of death.
We have all done it.
‘Gary Hooper has been pony’ and then the bullish striker scores two goals to send you home with tails between the legs from Vicarage Road.
Everyone has said something that has turned out to be famous last words, for Kicker magazine it was this.
In their build-up to the Champions League fixtures they bigged up Hart, based on his excellent performances against Borussia Dortmund in the competition last year they felt he could be the difference for Manchester City against the all-conquering Bayern Munich outfit.
In fact they called him ‘Spielverderber’ - which translates as something similar to ‘spoilsport’.
Is Hart the spoilsport for Bayern? They cryptically quipped … and a few hours later it was clear that no, if anything he lit the candles, baked the cake and sang the songs for this Bavarian party in Manchester.
Proof that the kiss of death is a universal phenomenon.
