The other day we brought you the news that former Arsenal starlet Fran Merida had been sent off for Atletico Paranaense, his current club in Brazil, during a tie with Diego Forlan’s club Internacional Porto Alegre in the Copa do Brasil.
But it seems that ex-Arsenal players at Atletico-PR just cannot help but make the news for the wrong reasons at the moment - after Pedro Botelho saw his marching orders yesterday.
Now many of you will even know who Botelho is which is fine - he never played a single game for The Gunners.
He was signed in 2007 from Figuirense as an 18-year-old but he couldn’t get a work permit - so he was loaned out to Spain like so many other Arsenal foreign signings.
He spent time at Salamanca, Celta Vigo, Cartagena, Rayo Vallecano and Levante in Spain before he and the club gave up on the Home Office - and he joined Atletico-PR last summer.
But he has recently earned a reputation for being slightly reckless - as that is certainly how you could describe the tackle that caused the referee to produce red during yesterday’s game with Gremio.
Botelho lapsed in concentration before lunging in with former Dynamo Kiev forward Kleber.
What resulted was a nasty looking and extremely dangerous tackle, which was lucky not to do more damage for the Brazilian striker.
The red card was deserved in a very high angst match-up - in which Gremio ended with ten and A-PR nine.
Check out the video, Botelho’s red is at 5.20 in, but watch it all if you want to see a grown man, playing football in a swimming cap, stamp on the back of an opponent:
