A round up of the latest news, transfer rumours and gossip connected to Aston Villa.
The club v country row is set to explode at Aston Villa with Belgium set to call up Christian Benteke for their final World Cup qualifying match. Paul Lambert has earmarked his return from a hip injury for the Premier League match against Tottenham, after the international break.
The player who has been filling in for him, Libor Kozak, says he’s enjoying the new challenge of playing Premier League football. Kozak has already bagged his first goal for the club.
“I have a good rapport with the other players already which has helped me, but as a striker it's important that you're not waiting for a goal and that the first one comes quickly. It's a big help for me and I hope to get my next one very soon,” he told the club’s website.
Another of Villa’s attacking players, Andreas Weimann, has revealed he’s not at all worried about the loss of Benteke and believes the side has enough to compensate for his absence.
“We have that tight group where even he was saying we can play without him and we showed that on Saturday. We are looking forward to Hull on Saturday,” said the Austrian.
Weimann has also stressed that he’s aiming to produce better performances and higher standards. He’s stressed that the youthful core of the side is only going to get stronger as the season goes on.
Goalkeeper Brad Guzan has also had plenty of positive things to say, with the American revealing his excitement over the current form and potential of the side following a superb win against Manchester City last weekend.
In other news, Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar has stressed it’s important for the entire side to try and raise the spirits of defender Jores Okore. Okore has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and Vlaar has called on his teammates to help out the Dane.
Midfielder Fabian Delph has been named as the club’s player of the month for September. Delph accumulated more points through September than his closest challengers; Brad Guzan, Leandro Bacuna and Jed Steer.
In a more random story, Hollywood star Tom Hanks has revealed he relishes any Aston Villa victory. The American first started supporting the club because he liked the sound of the club name and went to watch the side play on their pre-season tour ahead of last season in the USA.
