Now it is official: Jurgen Klopp of Borussia Dortmund will get a two game touchline ban following his outburst in his Champions League’s 2-1 defeat to SSC Napoli last month. The ban will be enforced at Arsenal vs. Borussia Dortmund on 22th October. It had previously been considered one match would suffice but UEFA have seen fit to extend it.
Klopp’s assistant-manager Zeljko Buvac already stepped in as Borussia Dortmund defeated Olympique de Marseille 3-0 two days ago. Although Klopp reportedly liked how his subordinate managed the Champions League match he commented his impressions about his new spot in the stadium: “You watch better, but besides that it sucks.”
Despite his strong feelings Jurgen Klopp has to habituate to the view of the cosy VIP zone for probably one more game. It’s possible that the team of Germany’s Ruhr valley will contest the decision. How much effect it will have is up for debate.
One would think that Klopp will prepare his squad properly and instruct co-manager Zeljko Buvac in every way possible. Furthermore Buvac is not a rookie. He knows Klopp for a long time. Both managed FSV Mainz together for seven years and both transferred to Dortmund five years ago.
Therefore Arsenal could not hope for a lack of professionalism on the sideline but maybe for a lack of enthusiasm. Unfortunately Buvac is known as the calm one.
What do you think? Will Borussia Dortmund miss Jurgen Klopp on the sideline? Will the ban pay dividends for Arsenal?
But one should remember Klopp has a funny side too.
