Arsenal are now set to open discussions with manager Arsene Wenger over a new three-year deal worth £8 million-per-season. The Frenchman recently celebrated his 17 year anniversary in North London, and is currently the countries longest serving manager after the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Wenger has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain recently while he has also had his position at the club called into question.
But his current deal expires at the end of the season and he has just lead Arsenal to a ten game winning streak. It is believed a deal to keep him at Arsenal could be finalised during this month’s international break.
Arsenal’s under-19s cantered to victory in the UEFA Youth League last night against Napoli. They defeated their Italian counterparts 4-1 with goals from Chuba Akpom and Austin Lipman. Napoli were poor, despite a consolation goal from Gerardo Rubino in the 67th minute.
There was controversy however, as Jack Jebb started the game just a day after he was charged with racial abuse by the FA.
Chelsea are ready to rival Arsenal to the signature of Julian Draxler this winter. The Schalke 04 playmaker had an excellent performance in the Champions League this week against FC Basel and that has reignited interest in the player who has been linked with plenty of deals away from the Bundesliga recently - although the rumours suggest it will be for much less than the £60 million once quoted for him, with a figure of £25 million being mooted.
Arsenal and Manchester City have been linked with a move for Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund - with it believed that a January move was in the offing.
