A round up of the latest news and transfer stories connected to Liverpool.
Some online sources have suggested that Luis Suarez’ representatives have already started talking with Spanish giants Real Madrid over a £50 million transfer that would see the striker move to the Bernabeu. Suarez was strongly linked with a move to Spain over the summer and it’s unclear where the current rumours started.
“Managers are only ever eight to 10 days away from the sack so to take risks on unknown young players is difficult. Brendan Rodgers has been fantastic at this club because he's been brave and he's given young players a chance,” Gerrard told BBC Breakfast.
Former Kop favourite John Barnes has joined in the debate, suggesting there is a culture in England of rewarding younger players for mediocrity.
“Our young generation is too comfortable; as a result they have closed that gap to grow. Money should not be the motivation, because what happens then when you have the money? Our young generation needs to focus on doing well,” Barnes told Goal.com.
Liverpool midfielder Lucas has suggested that Luis Suarez is simply the best player in the Premier League. Suarez bagged a brace on his return to Premier League action against Sunderland last weekend.
“Luis was the best player in the Premier League last year, so having him in our side again this season is just a real boost for all the team and the squad - We just hope he can have the same season that he had last year because he was a really important,” Lucas told the Daily Star.
One former Liverpool man who wouldn’t be sorry to see Suarez leave is John Aldridge. Aldridge has suggested that the club shouldn’t reward Suarez with a new deal next summer when he was so willing to leave the club over the summer just gone.
Mamadou Sakho has explained his motives behind joining Liverpool, suggesting he plans to make history with the club. The Frenchman appears on the cover of the next issue of Liverpool FC Magazine, giving an insight into the deal that brought him to Anfield.
Former Liverpool stars Steve McManaman and Robbie Fowler have been drafted in by Brendan Rodgers to coach at Anfield. The pair will work with Rob Jones with the Under-21 and Under-18 sides at the club, notorious for being two of the best youth sides in the country.
Liverpool are asking their fans to take to Twitter and vote for the club’s September player of the month. Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, defender Martin Skrtel and striker Daniel Sturridge are up for the award to be chosen by supporters.
