David Moyes explains Wayne Rooney injury - Hopeful of quick return?

Rooney Warm Up

Manchester United boss David Moyes spoke about Wayne Rooney's injury after the draw in Donetsk.

David Moyes is going to have to ask his Manchester United teammates to start going easy on Wayne Rooney in training.

It was not so long ago that Rooney missed three weeks of action after taking a boot from Phil Jones to the head causing a horrific scar on his forehead.

Now Manchester United's manager has revealed Rooney missed the 1-1 Champions League draw with Shakhtar Donetsk after a collision with fellow striker Danny Welbeck.

Asked after the game in Ukraine if Rooney would be back for the weekend's Premier League fixture away to Sunderland, the Scotsman sounded positive.

"I hope so. It's not that serious.

"It was just a clash of shins with Danny Welbeck and it's swollen up."

That's certainly good news for United fans who will be keen their side avoids a third Premier League loss in succession, with a motivated Sunderland keen to get off the mark.

United lacked a cutting edge in the second half against Shakhtar and Rooney's energy certainly would have helped as the match went on.

Coming away with a draw in tough circumstances without one of their key players could give the Red Devils the lift they need.

Do United need Rooney back for the weekend?
