The player’s agent says Jose Mourinho is interested in the Spurs defender
Tottenham’s spat with Chelsea regarding the latter’s underhand transfer dealings has taken a fresh twist after Vlad Chiriches’ agent claimed the player could use his spell with the club to engineer a move to Stamford Bridge.
Speaking in an interview with Sport.ro, which was republished by the Express, agent Victor Becali explained that he expects the Blues to launch a bid for the defender once he has proven himself at Spurs.
"If he has one or two good seasons at Tottenham, Chelsea will be willing to pay a large sum to buy Chiriches," he said.
“Mourinho says he has been aware of him since he was at Real Madrid."
Spurs previously fell out with Chelsea after the latter moved to hijack their rival's move for Willian, with the Brazilian opting to join the 2012 Champions League winners after previously agreeing terms at White Hart Lane.
And the bad blood between the clubs could intensify further should an upturn in Chiriches’ form result in the player demanding a move to Chelsea.
Tottenham previously blocked Luka Modric’s proposed transfer to Stamford Bridge, with the Croatian ultimately sold to Real Madrid and they would be unlikely to allow any of their current squad to move to a team they see as direct competition.
Chiriches signed for Spurs from Steaua Bucharest this summer in a deal costing the North London club almost £8 million.
He made his debut for the first team last month, in Tottenham’s 4-0 victory against Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup.
Despite pledging to make an impact at the club, the 23-year-old faces some competition to break into the first-team on a regular basis with Andre Villas-Boas presently opting to rotate Michael Dawson, Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen.
By contrast, Mourinho would most likely favour a move for the player, after growing concerned at the defensive form of David Luiz.
