Which Arsenal star does Higuain big up before Champions League tussle?

Napoli star striker Gonzalo Higuain lauds Gunner as one of the world's best.

One-time Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain is lighting up Italian football with a seamless transition from La Liga to Serie A as the Argentine hitman has already emulated his goal-scoring form from Real Madrid by returning four goals and one assist from all competitions with new club, Napoli, who he joined in July for a reported £34.5m.

The 25-year-old was a player Arsenal lodged official interest in, having seen a £23m offer rebuffed by Los Blancos at the beginning of the summer transfer market. While some quarters in the media were critical over the North London side for not returning with a more suitable fee for the proven striker, Arsene Wenger effectively enjoyed the last laugh as he unveiled Higuain's former Real team-mate Mesut Ozil.

It is one of football's many coincidences that Higuain and Arsenal were aligned to meet when the Champions League draw in Monaco grouped the player's current employers Napoli together with the Gunners, Marseille and Borussia Dortmund, in late August.

However, it is a cruel twist of fate that Higuain may not feature in this evenings match at the Emirates Stadium as Goran Pandev could be preferred because of a rumoured injury suffered by Gonzalo. However, there is, as of yet, no official confirmation of the player's withdrawal.

Regardless, Higuain has played-up the majestic attacking midfield talents possessed by fast-emerging Ashburton Grove favourite Ozil: 'I had the pleasure to play with Mesut and he is one of the best players in the world,' said Higuain, as quoted by The Indepedent.

Arsenal acquired Ozil for a club-record £42.4m, however, Higuain alludes to the exorbitant fees paid for players such as Gareth Bale (£85.3m), Edinson Cavani (£53.4) and Radamel Falcao (£50m) as evidence that Ozil was 'a great deal'.

He also mentions about how playing with Ozil is a 'dream' for any striker, something France international Olivier Giroud is currently benefitting from at Arsenal.

Higuain elaborates: 'As a striker he is a dream to play with because you know he is going to create you chances. When you look at some of the crazy fees that players moved for this summer, you have to say that Mesut was a great deal for Arsenal.'
