Romelu Lukaku played more minutes in pre-season than any other Chelsea striker, and after his impressive displays on loan at West Brom last year it had seemed likely he would feature regularly.
Jose Mourinho clearly had other ideas, agreeing to send the striker out on loan on deadline day to Everton, having signed the experienced Samuel Eto'o instead.
However with Eto'o yet to score in his opening two league games for Chelsea, it no doubt will have been tough to see Romelu Lukaku dominant for Everton against Newcastle on Monday night - taking his tally to three goals in two games for the club.
The Belgian striker assisted Ross Barkley for his goal too, putting in an all round display which has put the rest of the Premier League on notice.
Lukaku's display was superb - he had five shots on goal in total, three on target and two finding the back of the net.
He also made three key passes, with one converted into an assist. His pass completion accuracy however was a low 69 per cent, perhaps one area to work on going forward.
Lukaku made four successful dribbling attempts, with only Seamus Coleman (5) making higher of any of his Everton teammates.
With his mouth-watering display thrilling Everton fans delighted to have him on board for the season, and Roberto Martinez confirming there is no recall option in the loan deal, we decided to look at the other side of the coin.
What did Chelsea fans think of the performance? Here's a selection of their tweets...
Think #cfc fans need to worry about why hitherto prolific strikers go blank with us. Is the team creating enough? Lukaku missed a few tonite— Semiu Osho (@abdul_semi) September 30, 2013
Instead of the "Lukaku > Eto + Torres + Ba" moaning, we can just take the positives than he'll likely come back world class next year. #CFC— BLUE™ (@BlueChants) September 30, 2013
