We tell you all you need to know about reported United target Martin Hinteregger.
Given the way Manchester United’s defence has started the new season, it is no surprise the club are being linked with possible reinforcements. And despite the winter transfer window not opening for another three months, one potential target has been speaking of United’s apparent interest.
Austrian defender Martin Hinteregger has revealed to newspaper Kleine Zeitung that David Moyes’ side are admirers. And while the 21-year-old has no intention of leaving current club Red Bull Salzburg just yet, he acknowledges the opportunity is an exciting one.
“I confirm there is interest in me from Manchester United and a top Italian club,” Hinteregger said.
“It honours me; honestly I did not think something like this would come so quickly.”
The defender went on to say he had no intention to leave Austria for now, but would talk to his agent about whether a move would be beneficial.
But who exactly is Hinteregger, and what would he bring to United if he were to make the move?
He first appeared for his current club in 2010, making 22 appearances in his debut season.
He has made 77 league appearances for Salzburg to date, and has represented his country at both under-19 and under-21 level.
He has scored three senior goals and collected 15 bookings in that time, although he is yet to be sent off.
Hinteregger is also used to victory, having played his part in two league title-winning campaigns and one Austrian Cup success.
With Rio Ferdinand approaching the end of his career and with Nemanja Vidic tickling the twilight of his, it may not be the likes of Ezequiel Garay or Eliaquim Mangala who soon arrive at United, but an Austrian previously linked with both Arsenal and Liverpool.
