I mean really, have you ever had dinner at Gaucho or the Hawksmoor and not had steak left over? Whether you bring it home or not might be the better question.

If you're like me, you order more than you can eat so you do have leftovers, and then you turn them into this ridiculously good salad the next night. You just need to be happy to ignore health guidelines about eating too much red meat. You also need to not be ashamed to ask for the leftovers to be wrapped. But hello, you've just spent 50 quid on a steak. Asking to take home a portion worth £20 does not suggest you need to take home leftovers because you can't afford to buy food the next day. So take pride out of the equation, and make your life a little nicer.

Steak Salad

  • Mixed greens or arugula
  • Halved cherry tomatoes
  • Diced yellow or orange pepper
  • Chopped red onion
  • Crumbled blue cheese (or parmesan)
  • Steak, cut into bite-sized pieces

Dressing

  • 3 parts olive oil
  • 1 part balsamic vinegar
  • Spoonful of Dijon mustard (varying in size depending on how much you're making, and how much you like mustard)

Shake well in a small jar and dress generously.

Pour yourself a glass of red and enjoy!
