Tottenham weekend round-up: Holtby talks top four and Townsend for England

Lewis Holtby

All the latest from the past couple of days at White Hart Lane.

Lewis Holtby, who earlier this weekend was saying Tottenham can beat any of their Premier League rivals on their day - has distanced himself from suggesting the title was in their midst.

"Everyone can dream but our main aim is to get Champions League football. I think we've got the quality and the ability in the whole squad to do that, I'm very confident. It's a long season and everyone has to be at the top level to reach that. Chelsea was a big test, absolutely, and I think we're in a good way and playing a wonderful season.''

Andros Townsend is set to be given the nod on the right wing for England - in place of the injured Theo Walcott.

The Arsenal star has torn an abdominal muscle and had surgery last week.

Townsend has finally come good after initially struggling to get in the Spurs team.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has criticised Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen after the incident that saw Fernando Torres sent off yesterday.

The red card came near the end of Spurs’ 1-1 draw with the Blues at White Hart Lane, when the referee believed Torres had elbowed his opponent.

In quotes published by the Express, Mourinho said, “I don’t think the referee was guilty here – the player was.

This player (Vertonghen) is a special guy. Three days ago he left the Aston Villa striker naked and it was not a red card.

He should not have played this game. He should have been suspended with a red card. But today he changed the game.”

Manchester clubs struggle as balance of power shifts back to London

In other news, Tottenham new boy Erik Lamela has been talking about adapting to a new country during an interview with the Sunday People.

Cars on the opposite side of the street seems strange to me but I am still in a phase where London is new and I am taking it day by day.

London is a beautiful city with many places of interest, but I am player and it is not easy to fit in too much tourism.”
