Injury concern - Newcastle sweating over duo's fitness ahead of Everton trip

Fabricio Coloccini

Alan Pardew could be without his top defender and star striker at Goodison Park.

The Magpies are sweating over the fitness of skipper Fabricio Coloccini and frontman Loic Remy ahead of Monday night's televised Premier League clash.

Coloccini received a tough tackle towards the end of Wednesday's 2-0 win against Leeds United in the Capital One Cup.

Pardew said: "Colo got a tough old tackle at the end of the Leeds game, but we’re hoping he’s OK."

The bigger concern, perhaps, is the injury to French striker Loic Remy. The goalscorer, on loan from QPR has provided fresh impetus to Newcastle's frontline, and netted twice against Hull City last weekend.

Although he was rested for the Leeds match, Pardew confirmed that the 26-year-old picked up an injury on Tuesday.

England cricketer trolls Sunderland fans on Twitter - then backtracks

"He got a little strain on Tuesday. But he will be back training soon," Pardew explained.

Despite some Twitter rumours that Remy could be out for up to a month, Here Is The City understands the player is rated 50/50 for tomorrow's game at Goodison Park - and should definitely be back for the Cardiff City match next weekend.

Yohan Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa and Moussa Sissoko are expected to return to the Newcastle starting XI after being rested against Leeds.

Can Newcastle get a positive result at Goodison Park without Coloccini and Remy?
