Liverpool weekend round-up: Suarez at the double and Ladies' Super League triumph

All the news, views and transfer rumours from Anfield this weekend…

Luis Suarez’s return to league football was always going to be eventful, and so it proved as his brace helped Liverpool to a 3-1 win over Sunderland earlier today.

For once it was the Uruguayan’s strike partner courting controversy, as Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring in the 28th minute via his arm.

Suarez doubled the lead nine minutes before half-time, and despite Emanuele Giaccherini halving the deficit early in the second half, the Black Cats failed to equalise, leaving Suarez to complete the scoring with the match all but over.

The result sees Sunderland remain at the bottom of the table, while the Reds climbed up to second, two points behind leaders Arsenal.

We also bring you the latest Liverpool news every morning, reports that you can find below.

Our Saturday report contained quotes from Pepe Reina and how he sees his future away from Anfield. While our Sunday report included the latest on Atletico Madrid’s reported interest in Philippe Coutinho, along with Suarez’s hopes for a successful (and trophy-winning) campaign.

Well he certainly started in the right way this afternoon.

And finally, Liverpool Ladies won the Women’s Super League title earlier today, after beating Bristol 2-0.

The BBC reports on the achievement, which is made even more impressive by the fact that the side finished bottom of the league for their two previous campaigns.
