Goals from Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, on his Premier League return, earned Liverpool glory at The Stadium of Light.
Liverpool have beaten Sunderland 3-1 at The Stadium of Light after goals from Daniel Sturridge and a brace from Luis Suarez, on his return to Premier League action, saw the better of Emanuele Giaccherini's solo goal for Sunderland.
The game was a fairly even contest, but Liverpool scored two goals in quick succession to stun their hosts, more so then when they saw the awful Liverpool third kit.
It was Sturridge who grabbed the first goal - but on second look the Sunderland players had every right to complain. The ball ricocheted in off the England strikers hand.
But Suarez was not about to let them mope. The Uruguayan was playing his first Premier League game since returning from a ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic - and he wanted to make an impact.
This time Sturridge turned provider, laying the ball on a plate for Suarez to celebrate in impassioned style as per usual.
Liverpool went into the second half feeling comfortable, but Sunderland soon shifted their furniture around.
A scrappy goal for Giaccherini after former Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet could not gather Ki-Sung Yeung's long range effort brought The Black Cats back into the game - and were suddenly looking capable of a point.
But, as they pushed numbers up for a corner they were caught on the break, and Sturridge again provided the ball on a plate for Suarez to kill the game at 3-3.
