Two goals within the space of three minutes were enough to give Southampton a solid win at home against Crystal Palace.
The Saints were made to toil away for their win but Pablo Osvaldo’s first goal for the club and a Rickie Lambert strike secured the South coast team three points to go with a positive win against Liverpool last weekend.
Southampton dominated the ball but were made to work hard as they tried to fashion clear chances, with 33% of their efforts on target.
Osvaldo deserves a lot of credit for the opener as he was placed under pressure from two Crystal Palace defenders, he managed to hold them both off, finding space for a left footed shot which he fired home well.
Rickie Lambert doubled the advantage when the Saints were handed a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Lambert struck the ball superbly which hit the underside of the cross bar before dropping into goal.
Palace worked hard to get themselves back into the game but were never able to force an effort on target.
