Aston Villa 3-2 Manchester City: Spirited Villa come from behind twice to win

Aston Villa came from behind twice to secure their first home win of the season against Manchester City.

It was a superbly spirited performance from Aston Villa, under pressure for the majority of the match with City dominating possession and eclipsing the number of efforts the home side had on goal.

Yaya Toure put City ahead just before half-time when he tapped home inside in the 18 yard box following a corner but the home side reacted positively after the break with Karim El Ahmadi thumping the ball home just inside City’s area.

City rallied well, piled on the pressure and Edin Dzeko put Manuel Pellegrini’s side ahead again with a simple finish in the 56th minute. City roamed, pressed and searched for a way to extend their advantage but a telling 20 minute period saw the home side secure the win.

Leandro Bacuna produced a superb free kick inside the 73rd minute which left Joe Hart with no chance to equalise before Andreas Weimann took advantage of some lazy defending from Matija Nastasic to poke home the winner just a couple of minutes later.
