11 contenders for the Derby County manager job

Departure

Derby County sacked manager Nigel Clough earlier this evening, after the 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest in the east Midlands derby.

The defeat left Derby in 14th spot in the Championship, with 11 points from 9 games. Clough joined Derby in January 2009.

Clough's sacking came out of the blue, and the bookies have yet to publish odds on who will be the next manager in Derby County the hot-seat, but here's a list of the names already being mentioned in despatches:

Alan Curbishley - ex-Charlton, West Ham United

Sean Dyche - Burnley

Roy Keane - ex-Sunderland and Ipswich

Steve McLaren - ex-Middlesborough and England

Alex McLeish - ex-Nottingham Forest, Birmingham, Aston Villa

Martin O'Neill - ex-Celtic, Aston Villa, Sunderland

Stuart Pearce - ex-Nottingham Forest, England U21s

Gus Poyet - ex-Brighton

Tony Pulis - ex-Stoke

Peter Reid - ex-Manchester City, Sunderland

Neil Warnock - ex-Shefield United, QPR, Leeds United

Keane, Pearce, McLeish and O'Neill would all be controversial appointments due to their previous associations with rivals Forest.
