Tottenham Hotspur morning news: AVB slams Mourinho and Mata enquiry confirmed

A round up of this morning’s news relating to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas says Jose Mourinho failed to take him seriously.

AVB was part of Mourinho’s staff at FC Porto, his first spell at Chelsea and then Inter Milan, but he’s criticised the Chelsea manager for not giving him a chance to become his assistant.

“Our break-up point was because I was full of ambition to give him something extra. I wanted further involvement to the job I was doing, scouting and match preparation,” said AVB.

Spurs and Chelsea meet this weekend in the Premier League and AVB has also revealed Spurs did enquire over the transfer of playmaker Juan Mata.

Mata’s future is the subject of much speculation as he fails to feature regularly in the plans of Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

“When top players become available when their situation changes at a club, particularly for a player like Juan Mata, you enquire about the situation, but nothing went further,” said the boss.

Tottenham midfielder Paulinho says he wants to be the top Premier League player from Brazil this weekend.

Paulinho has spoken of his close relationship with the Brazilian players at Chelsea but insists he wants to out perform them in the London derby this weekend.

“There is a level of affection there, a friendship between us all. But when we step onto the field of play we are there to defend ourselves and defend our team so I will be there fighting for,” he told the Telegraph.
