Manchester City latest: Duo to miss Villa match and United legend praises Hart

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad...

Following two outstanding and emphatic victories in the last week, Manchester City go into tomorrow’s match against Aston Villa in high spirits.

In early team news, Sergio Aguero and David Silva are unlikely to be risked, especially with a vital Champions League group match against Bayern Munich next week.

The Mirror reports that Aguero will not play having suffered a knock during Sunday’s Manchester derby. Silva is still yet to return to first-team action following a thigh injury, with the match against the reigning champions of Europe earmarked as his most likely return.

Aston Villa are reportedly ready to welcome back four of their most important players after they missed the League Cup defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Gabriel Agbonlahor, Ciaran Clark, Antonio Luna and Fabian Delph should all return as the Villans look to build on their last league outing – a 1-0 win away against Norwich City.

Paul Lambert will however have to make do without Christian Benteke, after the Belgian striker was ruled out for over a month with a hip injury.

And finally, the Manchester Evening News has published quotes from former Manchester United and City ‘keeper Peter Schmeichel, praising the Blues’ current custodian of the gloves.

Joe Hart has come in for a bit of criticism but it’s only because he’s the England goalkeeper and he’s not got any competition,” the Dane said. “It’s always been like that, it’s just the way the English media works.

Joe Hart is a tough cookie and he won’t listen to any of that. A lot of what he has been criticised for is just rubbish.”
