Everton should have made a bigger push for Mario Mandzukic

Everton missed out on Mario Mandzukic who is now on Real Madrid’s wish list.

A lot is going on right now with today’s top Bundesliga strikers. First the Lewandowski-drama about a potential commitment with Bayern Munich and then Mario Mandzukic.

Rumour has it that Munich’s striker, who was eyed by Everton FC a year ago, is now on the wish list of Real Madrid.

This is a least the opinion of well-known player consultant Francois Gallardo, who also predicted that Gareth Bale will go to Real Madrid.

However this time he might be out of line.

Sure, Mario Mandzukic, who made 15 goals last season including a lot of crucial ones, is not the dynamic player Munich’s manager Pep Guardiola normally likes. The striker could furthermore shy away from more competition by the potential signing of Robert Lewandowski.

But all of that seems not believable.

Just three days ago the Croatian born striker said he wants to stay in Munich for the rest of his career. He admitted that he had problems in his settling-in period with the Guardiola style of play. But that’s off the table now. Mandzukic adjusted and recorded four goals in six games. His market value is at a high £19.3 million.

Why should he go to Real Madrid? It seems that he likes his new Bavarian home.

The more interesting thing about this rumour is that it shows the extraordinary improvement Mario Mandzukic made. In the last two years his market value has doubled.

The question might be: Should Everton FC have made a bigger push to sign the former VfL Wolfsburg striker Mandzukic?
