Arsenal’s German contingent has steadily rose over the past few years, and today the club have three fully fledged internationals in their squad in the form of Lukas Podolski, Per Mertesacker and of course Mesut Ozil.
But it is not just the starting XI where you can find yourself Germans in the Arsenal fold - the youth team has a few as well.
And two of them have recently made inroads into the first team. Last night saw Arsenal take on West Brom at The Hawthorns - and both Serge Gnabry and Thomas Eisfeld take to the pitch.
It was a better night for Eisfeld, who bagged a senior goal on his full debut - while Gnabry will want to forget his penalty miss. However he did recently play in the Premier League on top of his League Cup - filling in for the injured Theo Walcott against Stoke City last weekend.
Both players have been talked about by Arsenal fans for a little while now, with their impressive performances for the Under-21’s not going unnoticed so there is certainly hope that Gnabry and Eisfeld can now kick on and prove their worth at this level.
And for the former Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund players respectively they got some solid backing today from a German master - team-mate Mesut Ozil.
Ozil took part in an Arsenal Twitter Q&A this morning, and this was one of the interactions he had with an inquisitive fan…
Mesut says: "They are very talented, they have to develop further but they are on the right track" #AskOzil— Arsenal.com (@Arsenal) September 26, 2013
So Ozil certainly sees promise there, and don’t we all. Both have the ability to play at the highest level - and if they just continue to work hard and stay on this trajectory, playing alongside Ozil will become a weekly occurrence.
Do you think Eisfeld and Gnabry can make it at Arsenal?
